Sportzeen Experience

Working on the Sportzeen was a great experience for me. Reason being is that it gave me a chance to write sport stories.Which was the reason for studying for journalism anyway.
Last year I never had the oppurtunity to write sport stories so when the chance came to produce a zine about anything that I wanted to I jumped at the chance to produce a zine about sport.
To make the zine more relevant in terms of current events we decided to focus on the ICC Cricket World Cup. I believe this decision was a good one to make as basically everybody was watching the world cup at home, so we knew that we would have people interested in our zine.
The task at hand would have already been enjoyable for me yet it was made more so enjoyable by dynamics of my group. I enjoyed working with Julian, Siphiwo and Shameila. Reson being is that each of them were willing to perform any task for the zine, their spoert wriiting skills are good and they were filled with great ideas to make the zine better.
During our first meeting we decided to do our first zine about the world cup. We also decided during our first meeting that we should dedicate the second zine to the IRB (International Rugby Board) World Cup which will be a pre analysis of the tournament as it will only take place in September. We then decided that our final zine production will based on soccer. We made this decision because by the time that the third zine must be produced it will be what is known as crunch time in the soccer season. Therefore our zine will be about the leading contenders fo all the major soccer tournaments os 2011.
During our next few meetings we decided on story ideas and how our zine was going to look. We also delegated who will be doing what and by when the stories should be done. This was all done successfully and there was no fighting amongts each other for who should do what story as we were willing to any story that had to do with the world cup.
As a result of our content we could not really produce ouur stories early as we had to wait for what happended during the world cup. Therefore we spent a lot of time on desinging the zine and thinking of more ideas in terms of pictures.
When the world cup came to an end that was when our work started. We met a few times during this time decided what should go into our stories and finalising our picture selections. All our articles were done before the deadline we had set ourselves yet after I edited the articles we encountered a serious problem with the campus computers. This problem resulted in all of our work being wiped off my flash drive resulting in all of our work disappearing. Fortunatly our stories were still fresh in our minds so we were able to reproduce our articles and along with a last day rush to get our pictures sorted we produced our very first edition of Sportzene.
We have already discussed the story ideas for the next zine. Which will be about the IRB World Cup. This zine will be done long before deadline as our focus is pre- tournament.

FIFA Golden Ball Nominees

while ive been watching the World Cup i wondered just who is going to recieve the golden ball award? for those who don't know the Golden Ball Award is given to the best player at the World Cup. Will it be David Villa for his goal scoring, Lionel Messi for his gameplay, maybe Xavi Hernandez for creating almost 80% of Spains goals, will the hatrick hero Gonzalo Higuain take it, or Uruguay's hero Diego Forlan.
Germany could have a few candidates in Mesut Ozil and Samit Khedira.
Maybe FIFA give it to an African which could be Asamoah Gyan.
Personally my favourite for the Golden Ball is Wesley Sneijder and I think he could take the FIFA Player of the Year as well
